Personal Statement
I am a highly motivated person who is passionate about education and creating success for 21st century learners.
My enthusiasm for education, learning and teaching is infectious. I enjoy working with students and teachers to develop meaningful tasks, which will extend and challenge them. I foster an environment, which engages students and teachers through expectation and encouragement. I believe the promotion of learner responsibility and knowledge of individual intelligences and strengths are vital for student ownership of learning.
Children have the right to an education, which meets their individual needs, developmental level and cultural background. To meet the needs of students a holistic approach is required to enable children to develop intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically.
It is important that schools are interesting exciting and fun places where laughter is heard everyday. They should promote higher order thinking in imaginative ways to stimulate and engage learners.
I am a life long learner and strongly believe in ongoing professional development is important to ensure a good understanding of modern teaching approaches and learning theories. As a principal I model this with current staff through our school professional development plan and classroom modelling.
Numeracy and Literacy are the foundation for all education. I believe teachers need to encourage children to think and question through using the tools of their age. Children live in visually stimulating worlds with a range of technologies at their fingertips. Schools need to reflect this and provide stimulating environments with a sound pedagogical base to ensure the technology is used as a tool to aide and assist learning.
My philosophy is to develop an integrated approach of authentic student centred inquiry to develop and enhance thinking and questioning using the best available tools.
As a leader my role is to create a great team in a safe, caring, inclusive environment based on mutual respect, which encourages risk taking, problem solving and creative thinking. Students should be engaged, enthusiastic and critical about their learning.
They should develop a love of learning, which will carry them throughout their education and enable them to reach their full potential.
I believe modelling reflective practice is vital for continuous self-improvement. This is important as a leader, mentor and teacher in a school.
